Collection 01
A Tale of Two Friends
Objects by TextileSeekers carries forward the values and philosophy that shape the wider TextileSeekers world. Our first collection – a range of artisanal combs and hairpins, crafted from bone, shell or horn – will be released with ten prototypes, and with only twenty pieces produced per design. This exclusive and limited run of creations kick-starts Objects by TextileSeekers exactly as we intend to continue: as a definitive pushback against mass consumption, overstocking, and the pressures put on small workshops to produce more than they can sustainably manage.
The first Objects by TextileSeekers collection, entitled A Tale of Two Friends is, at its essence, a meditation on duality; one which delves into the nature of the sojourner and their inherent restlessness. An exploration of divided identities and of living between separate worlds and nationalities, the collection explores how connection and harmony can exist between these states of being. Elegantly expressing this duality, the beautiful combs of this collection – handcrafted in matching pairs – tell a tale that’s deeply personal to me. They speak of cultural significance that resonates from my earliest childhood, and the importance of making friends of our different identities, all while untangling the knots we create as we wander onwards through our lives.
A hair comb object worn as a necklace, adorned with a cotton fabric blessed by Ms Nhu, a shaman from the Black Hmong Tribe of Mai Chau, Vietnam. Hand-carved from mother of pearl, featuring a spherical head. Each sphere is constructed from shell, carefully cut into discs, stacked, joined, and hand-bevelled to reveal the layers within. Look closely and you will discover the layered construction within every bead, revealing the quiet complexity of what first appears simple.
Hand-carved in Hanoi, Vietnam by specialist horn and shell artisans whose skills have been passed down through generations. Each piece is individually carved, shaped, sanded and polished entirely by hand. Produced in small quantities.
No two pieces are identical. Variations in colour, grain and pattern are a natural characteristic of the material.
Buffalo horn and shell are natural materials traditionally used throughout Vietnam for both decorative and functional objects. Each piece carries its own unique colour, texture and character.
• Materials: Mother-of-pearl shell
• Dimensions: Approx. 7.5cm length
• Care: Wipe with a damp cloth; avoid prolonged water exposure
