CAN MANH HUNG
“From the nostalgia of black and white photos to details in close-up shots, all these moments come into being because light enters the camera lens and react with chemicals on film. The alchemy that happens during each of these moments is the reason why I love photography.”
To record, to remember, to reveal.
Mr Can Manh Hung university-trained in anthropology is a photographer based in Hanoi, who wishes to use his photos to tell a story for each moment that he captures. A moment in time that would otherwise be lost, without his documentation through photography. As a collector of tribal cultural artefacts, his passion is a bridge that connects people to the past, while his photography seals extraordinary moments, preserving them as memories for the future.
Can’s relatively small archive of images he has taken over a decade, are a testament that his photos revolve around regional people and culture. Street life, national heritage, these themes resonate with him. From old towns that have seen the passage of time to high mountain villages nestled within nature’s bosom, Can draws inspiration from these places, searching for vivid visual content that would move him to click the shutter button. His mission as a photographer is deeply intertwined with the history and culture of his country, and he wishes to be a part of this narrative. Without filters, photo editing enhancers, his images capture the spirit of ‘slow art’.
“Photography is a combination of science to make art”. Mastering different elements to create a photo that speaks to the heart while having the dreamer’s courage to leave finding the perfect moment to serendipity, is perhaps the key to capturing the best photos.
