Our November Retreat
TextileSeekers is a sustainable slow travel company that empowers solo female travelers to embark on a journey that is centred around ancestral textile traditions. We offer our travelers the opportunity to build connections with communities, interact with artists and craftspeople, and study ancient textile techniques.
From the first moment our group set foot on Sa Pa, we were spellbound by the nature that surrounded us. Staying at Topas Ecolodge provided the travelers an opportunity to walk in the clouds, relax in an expansive space of greenery, while very safely and comfortably used the lodge as a base to explore the region.
Our travellers unraveled the weaving of hemp, attempted batik drawing, and learned about natural dyeing using leaves and roots of plants. After witnessing in awe the swift stitching of Red Dao embroidery, many travelers gave that a try only to discover the amount of time and work that was required to truly master this intricate skill.
While we have curated a colourful and enriching itinerary that allows travelers to immerse in an authentic experience of textiles and traditions, we also care about fostering relationships with the women from the tribes that we visit. This is the reason why we took the time to sit down for a conversation, strayed off the beaten path to see how the locals live, and sought a cultural exchange.
We had the honour of attending a traditional Red Dao wedding ceremony taking place in a tent perched at the edge of a cliff. We saw the bride waiting for the auspicious hour declared by the shaman before entering the groom’s house. During the celebration, we were treated to local delicacies, all locally grown, organic and fresh. For all the travelers, it was a truly unforgettable moment during our Sa Pa Hill Tribes Textile Tour.
